Memorable Quinceañeras

Updated: May 4, 2020

Hello, and welcome to CamMi Photo Booth's most memorable events blog!

Let's get started!

What exactly is a Quinceañera (kinsā-ənˈye(ə)rə)? And, what give it a luxury touch?

The short answer and my most concise way for me to explain the momentous tradition is to simply share with you it's purpose. A quinceañera celebration is a commemoration and reintroduction of a girl who has reached the right-of-passage from childhood to womanhood. It is said that this tradition was established in the era of the Aztecs and Spanish Conquerors; today, the culture has been embedded across Latin America.

Before we continue -- Let me tell you a little story!

As the daughter of proud Mexican parents, you should know that I took part in this lovely tradition, whether for myself and on behalf of close family and friends. And, with my vast experience, I feel confident to write from my real experience. I've also had the pleasure of participating in the monumental undertaking that is required to successfully coordinate and execute a massive celebration.

Now before we keep going, you might find it interesting to know that I fought with tooth and nail to avoid the entire thing! Yes! At the age of 14, I had absolutely no interest in taking part in the religious ceremony and wanted nothing to do with the then ceremonial dance that includes the exchange of symbolism of the last doll and new heels -- that solidifies the passage.

Having said that, my parents were up by one, and I was left at zero. Fast forward to the big day, and I am happy to report that there were significant comprises made on both ends. My parents wanted a religious acknowledgment of the passage, and therefore we held a small private ceremony in our local church. I wanted nothing to do with a giant, puffy dress! So, Mom did her best to find a suitable substitute from Sears & Roebucks. We settled again on a light cream color dress. The evening was composed of the family and friends closest to us, and with a handful of friends, I felt like the prettiest girl in the world!

If I didn't say it before --Thank you, Mom and Dad! Because of you, I have precious memories from that night and my childhood!
